The deteriorating state of the Cape Flats is a serious discussion very few dare to have. Substance abuse, violence, crime...broken socioeconomic standards is our norm and it's only getting worse. Behind the facade of Cape Town's great tourist destination rating, lay a truth our people can't get away from. Children born with great promise overcome by living conditions beyond their ability to comprehend. Like fallen stars our children's light is quickly extinguished by what some call life. Who shall invest in these? They seem unprofitable to the rest of society and a certainty is that Mitchell's Plain isn't the only community facing this degeneration.
The reasons for the above are beyond words and stretches back to our father's fathers. Bringing about positive lasting change will need a look ahead and not at the past. No blame will resolve the issues we face now. Now, not later, we must believe we have value. Value enough to impart and build up the ruins.
